JPNA Photo Essay

While going down to Johnson Park I didn’t know exactly what I would see or if I would talk with anyone or how many pictures I would take. My experience and process of writing the essay was different from what I thought it would be. It was a lot more difficult then I thought because there were some more pictures I would have liked to put in the essay and some others I didn’t have much to talk about and some I didn’t really have anything to say about at all.

When I first went down to Johnson Park I didn’t think it would be too hard to take eight pictures and write a little description on each of them. The neighborhood was kind of like I imagined it but there were something that surprised me. It was nicer and quieter then I thought. The streets were pretty much empty probably because it was Sunday. There weren’t many people to talk to and the ones that were outside looked busy. By the time I had all the pictures I thought I woul need, I realized I had over two hundred and it wasn’t going to be difficult to pick just eight.

I had pictures of old houses, new houses and what I thought were remodeled houses. Some other pictures I had were of objects or areas that stuck out to me that I thought were interesting. When I was observing the houses in the neighborhood I thought it was easy to tell old houses from the new remodeled ones. It was hard to tell the difference between the newly built houses and the remodeled old ones. There were pictures of lots where it seemed that something was going to be built, the playground, the church and of a guy in a white van who I thought gave us the peace sign that I wanted to choose from.

The pictures I chose to put into the essay, I chose because I thought that those pictures in that order best represented my experience in the neighborhood. It was mostly a quiet experience where I got to take in a lot of different parts of the neighborhood. I saw culture from the murals and I saw areas that needed fixing up like the garden and some of the homes. There were areas that I thought were great like the new houses and the actual park is nice, its big and clean.

It was difficult for me to pick just eight photos to write about from over two hundred especially since there are a lot of aspects of the neighborhood to talk about. I tried not to pick photos that looked similar or resembled each other because I wanted to show the variety of things I saw. It is a big place and it has a lot more to it then it seems.
